SERB NATIONAL FEDERATION ELECTS NEW OFFICERS
AT 20TH QUADRENNIAL CONVENTION
WINDSOR, ON – Following two days of committee meetings and caucuses, delegates to the Serb National Federation’s 20th Quadrennial Convention concluded agenda business with the election of a new national executive board.
The Serb National Federation, a fraternal organization established in 1901, consists of 150 local lodges in the United States and Canada. Over 130 delegates took part in the proceedings during the weekend of September 8-9 at the Serbian Centre on Tecumseh Road.
For the first time in the organization’s history, a Canadian was elected as Serb National Federation president. Peter Borkovich, a Hamilton attorney, was chosen to lead the SNF for the next four years.
Borkovich served as a SNF national officer in the past, most recently as 1st vice-president under the leadership of Dr. Daniel J. Pyevich, immediate past president. His law practice is in the area of civil litigation. Originally from Sudbury, Borkovich moved to Hamilton after graduation from law school in 1973 to practice with his uncle, Nick Borkovich, who also served on the SNF board as 2nd vice-president in the 1970s.
“You have honored me immensely,” the new SNF president told the delegation in Windsor. “We are going to set out to make this organization twice as strong over the next four years. It’s a mission we all take home with us.”
Other newly elected national officers include 1st Vice President John G. Martich, 2nd Vice President John Lovrensky, Cheryl Klipa Secretary, Steve Maslek Treasurer; Members Michael Marjanovich, Rade Vignovich, Dane Medich, Pam Rajkovich, Very Rev. Nedeljko Lunich, and Mickey Zuber.
The newly elected Audit Committee will be chaired by Steve Pyevich. Ely Grubisich will serve as vice-chair; secretary is Sandra Book, and members are Vera Vuckovich and Rada Stone. Completing the entire executive board is the Dispute Resolution Committee consisting of Ray Vukas, Marko Vucenovich, and Stevo Dobrijevich.
Delegates adjourned on Sunday afternoon after a final vote in which they selected Milwaukee, Wisconsin USA as the site of the next convention in 2011. The Serb National Federation home office and headquarters are at 938 Penn Avenue in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania USA.
