The SNF Culture Department has acquired world-wide publishing rights for
Obren Pjevovic’s music. We are proud to offer you a compilation of his creative
genius. This is the first time that his music has been organized under one
cover, though he deserved it long ago. The artists are names you know: Miroslav
Ilic, Lepa Lukic, Dobrivoje Topalovic, Olivera Katarina, Milan Babic, Marinko
Rokvic, Snezana Djurisic, Gordana Jeftovic, Dusica Bilkic, Bora Dugic on
frula, and Dragan Aleksandric orkestra. With them you have an opprtunity
to hear and see groups and individuals that portray the authentic sounds
of folk singing; female vocal group "Prelje", male vocal group "Stari pomeljari",
Slavica Stanojevic, folklore group "Mrcajevci", as well as the Choir of
Eparhija Zicka. The selected audio material has been digitally enhanced
in the U.S., and it brings out the beauty and richness of his work.

| If you do not know who Obren Pjevovic is,
just remeber the different hits sungs by Miroslav Ilic, Lepa Lukic,
Dobrivoje Topalovic, Olivera Katarina, which you have loved over the
years. Obren Pjevovic, a composer, song writer, poet and bohemian
of the highest class, created over 170 songs that have become a part
of the cultural heritage of Sumadija and the Serbian people. Some
of his songs you throught were authentic folk pieces, because Obren
Pjevovic, in the style of the best poets born through the centuries
of Serbian folk tradition, creates an atmosphere of the Sumadija region
and village of Mrcajevci, defines sounds of the Morava river and Western
Serbia. Listening to songs "Tera Ero stado", "Polje je pevalo", "Oj
Moravo", "Kapija se sara", "Mrcajevici", "Obesi venac o drenac", one
experiences the sense of a timeless ancestral spirit guiding and inspiring
him. His creative philosophy, I would say, unlimited poetic nature,
have contributed to the works of art in his opus. |

| Through word and lyrical elements, his metaphysical
relationship to his surroundings and Nature, is depicted in "Dzenarika",
"Ej da mi je", "Voleo sam devojku iz grada", "Moravsko predvecerje",
"Pomeljarka", to name a few. Like an old oak tree, Obren Pjevovic,
this authentic author, Srbin from Mrcajevci, Cacak, Sumadija, Srbija,
although no longer with us in this earthly life, still stands tall
amongst us, to warm our hearts for generations to come. |
