| During World War II, many American
pilots were downed by German fighters. Many of these pilots were rescued
from certain doom by General Draza Mihailovich. His efforts in the
German-occupied Yugoslavia saved many American lives by smuggling
them back to friendly territory.
W.W.II veterans and Serbian-Americans say Mihailovich is a hero
that deserves a statue in Washington. On March 19, 1997, General
Mihailovich was honored with the dedication of a bust of his likeness
at the Serb National Federation home office.
